Tender beef and blanched broccoli are stir-fried together in a savory sauce. It's a simple yet satisfying dish commonly served with steamed rice.
Ingredients:
  • Beef sirloin - 14.1 ounces (400 grams)
  • Broccoli florets - 10.6 ounces (300 grams)
  • Soy sauce - 3 tablespoons
  • Oyster sauce - 2 tablespoons
  • Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
  • Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic, minced - 2 cloves
  • Ginger, minced - 1 tablespoon
  • Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
  • Water - 118 milliliters (1/2 cup)
  • Brown sugar - 2 tablespoons
  • Black pepper, ground - 1/4 teaspoon
  • Rice, cooked - 400 grams (2 cups)
Instructions
  • Cut the beef into thin strips. In a mixing bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, cornstarch, and sesame oil.
  • Add the beef to the mixing bowl and toss until the beef is coated with the marinade. Set aside for 10 minutes.
  • In a wok or large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over high heat. Add the minced garlic and ginger and stir-fry for 30 seconds.
  • Add the marinated beef to the wok and stir-fry for 2-3 minutes, or until the beef is browned and nearly cooked through.
  • Add the broccoli florets to the wok and stir-fry together with the beef for 1-2 minutes.
  • In a small mixing bowl, whisk together water, brown sugar, and black pepper. Pour this sauce over the beef and broccoli.
  • Continue to stir-fry for an additional 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened and the broccoli is tender-crisp.
  • Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry with steamed rice.
